UGANDA

"the economy remains in a generally precarious condition and the system of services, from education to health, presents problems that are not easy to resolve."

kindergarten and primary school

Western Uganda is one of the poorest areas of the country. It is an area where guerrillas have transited to and from the Congo, during the three wars that took place in the Congo.

The schools in the area are non-existent or very poor.  Because of the dangers in the ground, parents often do not let the children go too far from home, including to school.   For this reason, local children frequently grow up illiterate and marginalized, in a country that instead has big economic potential.

food bank and sustainable work for former street youth

Helping the ever growing number of street children is very important and urgent in Uganda.   In fact, after Mali, Uganda is the African country with the highest percentage of the total population under the age of 14, equivalent to a staggering 46.5% of the population.

Rosa Rossa and our local partner are helping the street children in Kabale (a city of approximately 50,000 inhabitants in southern Uganda) with a new food bank.   Also, we donated equipment and provided training to former street youth, to provide them a sustainable job, i.e. the manufacture and sale of quality cement bricks (which are in high demand due to the ongoing construction boom).

Finally, Rosa Rossa has recently purchased a small plot of land in the city, from which to deliver the above-mentioned assistance in the future.
