BRAZIL
"the region is semi-arid, and among the poorest in brazil"
agricultural microcredit for families
Rosa Rossa Foundation works in the state of Cearà, in the poor north-east of Brazil. This region is semi-arid, and among the poorest in the country.
In Ceará,
Rosa Rossa has launched a multi-year rural microcredit programme, donating the first 64 dairy goats to 2 inland villages.
Through this project, Rosa Rossa and our local partner have 2 key objectives: (1) The reduction of the infant mortality rate in the 2 villages, thanks to the improvement of nutrition through the production of good quality goat's milk (the closest to human milk); and (2) teaching the families the new and sustainable job of 'farm-animal breeders'.
This 24-36 month program includes a Capacity Building component designed as follows:
(a) coaching by an expert veterinarian in goat farming;
(b) help in construction of adequate accommodation for the sheep;
(c) vaccination and quarterly monitoring of sheep during the first 24 months.

What they say about us
"Thank you for the beautiful goats for our family. We have 3 small children and, in addition to learning a trade, we can also feed them milk. You have given hope for our future."
Jorge and Mariana, farmers, 35 and 28 years old
